Artist Spotlight: Savannah (@dictator.sveta)

Savannah (she/her) is a digital and traditional artist. Not only does she do art full-time, but she’s been creating since a very young age! Let’s learn about her process.

What type of mediums do you typically use?

Savannah: Digital art, acrylic and oil paintings, soft pastel and oil pastel paintings.

We love a good oil pastel moment — how did your art journey begin?

Savannah: Started as a childhood hobby!! I was always drawing or doing paint by numbers until I got better at doing my own art.

When I was very young I would peel the bark off trees–whatever shape the bark made I would paint it as an animal or object, attach a pin, and then give it to teachers and friends to wear.

Woah! Being able to create art from nature is amazing. You work in several different mediums, but which one is your favorite?

Savannah: Oil and soft pastels

Do you create art full-time, as a hobby, or are you working your way up to full-time?

Savannah: Full time!

Amazing! It’s wonderful to see artists creating full-time. What inspires you the most when you create?

Savannah: Bright colors, surreal subjects, fantasy concepts, and sometimes florals.

What’s the biggest challenge you’ve faced as an artist — and how did you overcome it?

Savannah: Since I was diagnosed bipolar in 2017 I struggle with bouts of depression where I do not want to create at all!

That is not easy, and thank you for sharing that with us ❤️ Is there anything fun or random you’d like people to know about you?

Savannah: I was an Air force intelligence officer for 8 years!

I have 4 studio pets!! My dog, Tula and 3 cats – Arnold, Floof, and Flash! Sometimes they are the subjects of my artwork.

What advice would you give to someone just starting their art journey?

Savannah: Keep at it!! Don’t be afraid to try new mediums and subjects or change up your style. You don’t have to fit into a box!
